Tips for a successful newborn session!

Here are some great tips for new parents for an amazing newborn photo session:

  1. Schedule Early: Newborn sessions are typically best when the baby is between 5 and 14 days old. Schedule the session before the baby arrives or shortly after the birth to secure a spot with the photographer.
  2. Choose the Right Time: Try to schedule the session during a time when your baby is usually most calm and sleepy. Mornings are often a good choice, but it depends on your baby’s individual routine.
  3. Keep the Baby Comfortable: Dress your baby in loose-fitting clothes to avoid marks on the skin. Avoid tight diapers or clothing that might leave imprints. Also, make sure the baby is well-fed before the session to keep them content.
  4. Keep the Room Warm: Newborns are used to the warmth of the womb, so keeping the shooting area comfortably warm is essential. A cozy environment will help keep the baby calm and sleepy. I always bring a space heater so baby is nice and toasty and Mom and Dad can keep the house or studio at a good temperature for them.
  5. Be Patient and Relaxed: Babies are sensitive to their parents’ emotions. If you are relaxed and patient during the session, the baby is more likely to be at ease as well.
  6. Pack Essentials: Bring along extra diapers, wipes, and a change of clothes for both you and the baby. Accidents can happen, and you’ll want to be prepared.
  7. Limit Guests: While it might be tempting to invite family and friends to the session, too many people can be distracting for the baby. Limit the number of guests to just the parents or immediate family.
  8. Don’t Stress About Perfection: Babies are unpredictable, and sometimes they might not cooperate with certain poses or setups. Embrace the natural moments and let the photographer capture the essence of your baby.
  9. Relaxing Sounds or Music: playing soothing music or white noise can help keep the baby calm and settled during the session so I make sure we have both for our session.
  10. Feeding and Comforting: Be prepared to take breaks for feeding and comforting as needed. A well-fed and content baby is more likely to cooperate during the photo shoot.
  11. Personal Touches: Consider bringing along a special blanket, toy, or prop that holds sentimental value to include in some of the photos.

Remember, newborn sessions are not just about capturing the perfect poses; they’re about capturing the love and connection between you and your baby. Enjoy the experience and cherish the memories created during this special time in your lives.
