So funny…I get asked this question all the time. Do babies smile or is it just gas? After 15 years of photographing these amazing little people, I can say without a doubt in my mind…YES THEY DO! If you have ever been lucky enough to watch a baby sleep for an extended period of time, you will see every emotion imaginable. They pout, cry, startle, twitch, smile and sometimes even laugh as they dream. My question is and will continue to remain…what are they dreaming about?

Here’s a small sampling, tell me what you think…:)

I had the pleasure of photographing these little cuties for their newborn, one year and now two year old sessions! It has been so much fun getting to know them, they are walking, talking balls of energy and smiles. I always look forward to my time with Gianna and Sabrina and their adorable parents.

You may remember a previous post with twin babies in a cowboy boot and milk pail about two years ago, well this is them in all their toddler glory now! We headed to Descanso Gardens in La Canada for the shoot, apparently one photo session a year is included with the membership now, such great news!! If you live in the San Gabriel Valley or surrounding areas Descanso is great and now even better as a photo shoot location option.

A few weeks ago I was lucky enough to capture little Shane! He was so cute and had the most AMAZING smile. He was such a happy little guy, I loved it! Below are some of my favorite images from our session, it was so hard to choose! Thank you so much for sharing him with me guys.

On a totally separate note, I love when I am reminded how small this world is that we live in, especially in a big city like LA. I had a 7 degrees of separation moment with Shane’s parents Frannie and Jordan while I was photographing their little guy. Jordan works for a fantastic company called UpFront Ventures. They host a summit every year in the LA area and the last two years I was asked to photograph the event. It was such an amazing experience and fascinating to hear about new and creative innovations. If you are involved in the Venture Capital arena in any way shape or form you have to come to their 2016 Summit, hopefully I will see you there! Newborn_Baby_Boy_Milk_Pail

Shane was so cute in his little milk pail prop and kept doing the most adorable smiles. We were able to incorporate a blanket made specially for him and his arrival as well. I love using textiles or props that are unique to my families when I can.

A few weeks ago I got to photograph the beautiful Madison Ivie! Matt & Lara were wonderful to work with and so cute with their baby girl. We were lucky enough to have help from Madison’s Grandmother, I just love that! I had a ton of family support when I had my babies and sessions like these remind me of those times and how special it was. Here are just a few of my favorites from our session. Thank you so much for sharing your little cutie with me guys! I hope you had a wonderful first Father’s Day Matt! Mom_Dad_Newborn

I love having the window light come from behind for a few shots, it creates a wonderful ethereal light.

Who doesn’t love Mommy & Daddy kissing on their baby girl?!

I love using these ruffle diaper covers when babies are on their tummies, it is such a sweet look for baby girls.

I recently purchased a few new headbands for baby girls from EdenWillowProps on etsy, I love the way this one looks on Madison. So sweet!

Newborn_Girl_Basket Newborn_Scale

This scale is and will probably always be my favorite prop. I just love how rustic it is and how timeless it looks. This diaper cover and headband set is also from etsy from My2lilPixies, check out their adorable newborn props.

Over the years I have been lucky enough to photograph hundreds of new little cuties and I cherish each and every one. A few times a year I get to experience a “first” along with these little ones during their first photo shoot. This session was my first time photographing a baby that was yet to be named! I absolutely love the naming process and everything that goes into it for each and every family. We realize how our kiddos will carry this name through their lives and it will be such a huge part of their identity. This sweet 5 day old baby girl was born at home with her adoring family who have yet to decide on this very very important part of her story. I am still on pins and needles waiting to find out and will update the post when I do! Here are a few favorite images from our session…it was so hard to choose!

Baby In Hanging Scale

I have such a soft spot for a newborn baby in a hanging scale or laying on a scale, it is so amazing how little they start out. I of course love to go minimal with no props as well, a baby curled up into sweet poses on a beanbag is just as great! Newborn Baby In Wood BowlI have tried out a few wooden and dough bowls over the years and I really love this new one. It is very heavy and natural looking and this little cutie let me get her into a very sweet pose up there. Newborn Baby In Doll BedI was given this baby doll bed by a friend a few months back. It was a dark wood and looked very masculine so I sanded and painted it this Robin’s Egg Blue so that it would work for my little girl and boy babies. It was so fun to put big sister in the photo too, they have such a cute bond already! I love the result! Newborn Baby In Doll Bed With Sister Newborn Family PhotosThere were so many photos that I loved of this wonderful family doting on their newest member so I decided to do a “newborn with family collage”! I love the result and Mama did a great job with wardrobe so it is just that much more spectacular! Thank you Victoria! Newborn Baby In Jiu-Jitsu UniformDaddy is a Jiu Jitsu black belt so we had to get this photo of her with his gear. I hope the Gracie Family enjoys this one! Newborn and Sister Baby Buddy CarriageAnd last but not least, a few more sister photos. Valyn is already a wonderful big sister and was a trooper during our session. Thank you guys again for sharing your family with me, it was such a pleasure to meet you all and share in this special time!
